| Whale watching May to November |

Port Stephens is a fabulous whale watching destination. You can watch the whales from the coast line from Tomaree National Park, or from a variety of eco-cruises, to witness the annual migration of the Humpback Whales. They travel up the coast May to July and return September to November - 3,500 whales enjoying this annual migration. There is also a resident population of Bottlenose dolphins in the Bay waters which can be seen all year round. This is why Port Stephens is considered the 'Dolphin Capital of Australia'. They can sometimes be seen from the local jetty at Wanda Beach, Salamander Bay, a few minutes walk from Salamander Cottage. But don't miss a cruise to view the dolphins, within the Port waters. There is a regular ferry service across Port Stephens all year round, as well as many cruise companies to choose from. All more ways to enjoy your stay at Salamander Cottage. |
